Sprint cars coming to HCMP

HCMP Media

The month of August means a month of excitement for south Florida race fans.

Last weekend the best Open Wheel Modified racers in the state made an appearance, with some real surprises. The hottest modified driver this year is of course Tampa's Jeff Mathews. Mathews had bad luck and was out the the race early.

Two brothers from Tampa along with Roger Crouse, known to Hendry County fans for his late model racing success, battled hard for the winners share of the purse. After Kyle Bronson broke while leading the event, brother Jason Bronson in his first ever open wheel race held off Crouse.

This coming Saturday August 8, the Winged Mini Sprints come to town along with the Paul Bange Roofing Sportsman, Advanced Auto Parts Street Stocks, Hendry County Mini Stocks and the Pure Stocks.

The Mini Sprints may be a slightly smaller version of the full blown sprints, but they are lightning fast, running close to 100 to 130hp and can run up to 120mph.

On the 15th fans will get a double dose of top flight short track dirt racing. The always popular dirt Late Models return along with the awesome power of the Winged Limited Sprint cars. The event is presented by Central Mobile Homes of Okeechobee and Labelle.

Drivers such as Gene Lasker, known for his hard driving style all over the country, will thrill the fans with their high-powered winged monsters. Track owner Ken Kinney, Jr. has already put out the word that there will be a drivers meet-and-greet and autograph session on the track.

The track is located one half mile North of the intersection of Hwy 27 near the Hendry/Glades counties line. Tickets can be purchased in advanced for only $10 and $5 for students at numerous locations.
