| Tuesday, June 9, 2009 | | Hendry County Motorsports Park Moving Toward Opening Day | HCMP Media
While progress is being made by leaps and bounds in the creation of Hendry County Motorsports Park in Clewiston, there are some factors that just weren't part of the plan. Due to the large amounts of rain in the area the practices scheduled for June 13, and June 20 have been canceled.
The much needed rains across Florida in May and early June have settled the worries about the drought conditions we were experiencing statewide. But those same rains, which Hendry County has received it's fair share of, means that the scheduled practice sessions for June have had to be scrubbed. The practice date for July 11 will be the first time drivers will be able to come out and try out the new racing surface.
The track is still on schedule for the July 18 opening date, but the large amount of rainfall has set back some of the projects needed to be completed for the track to be ready for the practice days.
The preparation of the new surface is proceeding slowly, in part due to the rains but also a lack of manpower. Meanwhile, billboards for new sponsors have been installed, bleachers have been painted, new concrete has been added around the concession areas and the landscaping begins this week.
There is still much to do to get the track fully ready for racing, and help in many areas is needed. If you or your company can help out with materials or labor in the coming weeks, please contact Ken Kinney at 863-673-4325.
